Mark Wahlberg Pumped For Michael Bay's 'Pain And Gain'

Not everyone can make the transition from early '90s rapper/underwear model to Academy Award-nominated actor. Over the years, Mark Wahlberg proved he could break the mold, and he's hoping to do that again with Michael Bay for "Pain and Gain," the director's small true-life passion project about Miami bodybuilders turned kidnappers.

Wahlberg spoke with MTV [...]

'War Horse': The Reviews Are In!

Steven Spielberg's holiday offering is a 'litmus test' for moviegoers' feelings about the director, one critic says.
By Eric Ditzian

The Christmas holiday offers a staggering array of fresh cinematic choices. The last two weeks have given us films about chipmunks and tigers, 19th-century detectives and 21st-century spies, motion-captured adventurers and motorcycle-riding hackers. Shoot, there are not one but two Steven Spielberg flicks to choose from when all of your presents have been opened and that post-holiday-meal coma has set in.

The most recent is "War Horse," which nabbed two Golden Globe nominations and is likely to garner a slew of Oscar nods, including Best Picture and Best Director (even if the reviews are mixed). The movie, which hit theaters on Sunday (December 25), isn't polarizing so much as it is, in critic Bill Goodykoontz's lovely phrasing, a "litmus test" for moviegoers' feelings about Spielberg's films in general. Some reviewers have lauded the beautiful cinematography and stellar cast, while others have taken issue with the film's overly sentimental tone.

Read on for a deep dive into "War Horse" reviews.

The Story
"The film deals with the relationship between Albert Narracott (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse, Joey. It's a sprawling story that uses the background of World War I as a framework, but it's really a very direct journey. Albert's father (Peter Mullan) buys a horse, Albert falls in love with it, WWI begins, the horse is sold to Captain Nicholls (Tom Hiddleston), and Albert decides to enlist so he can find his horse and keep him safe. The film follows Joey from owner to owner, using the horse's journey as a way of dipping into a number of stories along the way, and eventually reaching a rousing and nakedly tear-jerking finale. It is an episodic film, and how you feel about the movie as a whole will depend largely on whether or not you are moved by the various stops along the way." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

The Performances
"The cast is exemplary down the line, with both names and newcomers delivering expansive, emotional and almost entirely sympathetic performances. Neither side in the conflict is ennobled or demonized; like Joey (and a striking black steed who's his companion for a while), the grunts are just pawns in the hands of unseen manipulators of countless fates. Irvine is the very picture of a sturdy, well-intentioned, ruddy-faced English country lad of a hundred years ago and Mullan and [Emily] Watson look to have come from the earth they tread. Tom Hiddleston cuts a striking figure as an English officer who understands Joey early on, setting an example for the many others who briefly come and go through the horse's life as the war grinds on." — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

The Action
"Spielberg's battle scenes are a marvel of sight and sound — the latter literally shakes the theatres from the pop of rifles and the thunder of cannons. Spielberg tugs at the heart strings, but he's also not afraid to smack you upside the head with combat that realistically shows the madness of war. He interrupts the action too often, perhaps fearing a punitive censor rating. There are long stretches of 'War Horse' where Joey passes from hand to hand like the precious golden circle of 'The Lord of the Rings,' as this barnyard Balzac further demonstrates its wisdom and stoicism while dispensing silent life lessons." — Peter Howell, Toronto Star

The Dissenters
"[It's] overlong, painfully earnest and sometimes even hokey. Clearly, Spielberg intended 'War Horse' as a throwback, an homage to good, old-fashioned, heartrending storytelling, full of recognizable types and uplifting themes. The skies are so impossibly colorful in such a retro way, they look like hand-painted backdrops on a soundstage. And the dialogue is so frequently on-the-nose and repetitive, it might just make you cringe." — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press

The Final Word
" 'War Horse' is a sort of litmus test for how you feel about Steven Spielberg's films. It's a beautiful movie, stunning to look at, with echoes of film history all throughout, reaching back to 'Gone With the Wind,' 'The Searchers,' Spielberg's own 'Saving Private Ryan' and more. It's also unapologetically sentimental. Spielberg all but begs you to cry, and unless you're a heartless cad, you probably will." — Bill Goodykoontz, The Arizona Republic

Ben Affleck's a man of action now, isn't he? A few years ago, his career relegated him to romcom barf fests like "Gigli" and "Surviving Christmas." Our Favorite Celebrity Couples Of 20111676487

From Britney and Jason to K-Stew and R-Pattz, we look back at the best high-profile pair-ups of the year.
By Jocelyn Vena

From young love to established romantic empires, 2011 was all about PDA. Some of La La Land's most A-list couples weren't shy about flaunting the love they share. From musicians to actors to everyone in between, the last 12 months were all about sharing the love. As the year winds down, MTV News is reflecting on some of our favorite couples of the year.

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick
The couple walked red carpets, gave each other shout-outs at awards shows and even got naked together in Britney's "Criminal" video, but it wasn't until December that they decided to make it official. After two years of dating, Spears and Trawick took their relationship to the next level, with confirmation that Jason put a ring on it. The pair celebrated their love and their impending nuptials in Las Vegas. Their engagement sparked headlines and left Spears "glowing." Who is your top couple of 2011? Vote in our Newsroom poll! Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Summing up Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's year into a little blurb isn't that easy. They went to events together, and Bieber lavishly rented the Staples Center just to watch "Titanic." And when they weren't chilling out, they were giving shine to each other's hard work. Or bringing each other gifts. Remember when Bieber showed Selena his pet snake, Johnson, at the VMAs? Yes, we knew you wouldn't forget. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
The two "Twilight" stars seem poised to make our favorite couples lists for years to come. While in years past, they've remained under the radar, this year they came out of their shell and opened up about one another in interviews. Who could forget the time that K-Stew referred to her not-so-mysterious "English" boyfriend in an interview? We're assuming not R-Pattz.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z
OK, so Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been together for, like, an eternity, but it wasn't until this year that the pair really had everyone buzzing. When Beyoncé stepped out at the VMAs, her expanding midsection and flashy performance was the ultimate pregnancy announcement. Jay-Z didn't seem to mind all the attention. He celebrated the baby news in the audience with his pal Kanye West. Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose
Amber Rose rebounded from her relationship with Kanye West by falling in love with Wiz Khalifa. The couple took the world on their wild relationship ride, from doing interviews together to sparking rumors that they had tied the knot. These two kept everyone talking and they don't seem to mind the attention, or spending lots of time with one another. Did we forget your favorite couple of 2011? Let us know on Facebook!

Mischa Barton To Open Clothing Store In London

Former The O.C. star Mischa Barton has gotten herself a new gig and it is not in the acting biz. She is going to be a store owner, interesting huh! Get ready fashion world because the one time train wreck that was Mischa Barton is going to open her own clothing store but it won?t be in La La Land like so many celebs have done. Nope according to her rep she has her eye on opening a store in London. All the deats of her new adventure have apparently not been finalized yet but the sometimes actress is planning to open the store in the next year, if all goes well of course. This is not Barton?s first forte into the fashion world if you will. In the past she has worked with designers on handbag lines as well as headbands. I actually am only slightly embarrassed to say that I used to own a headband that came from one of the lines she collaborated on. Wondering why Mischa chose London as opposed to New York or Los Angeles? Well even though she was raised here in the United State she was actually born in England, that my friends [...]

SERIOUSLY?! Alfonso Ribeiro SPEAKS OUT About Original Aunt Viv And SAYS "That B*TCH Was Crazy!"

Who knew that Alfonso Ribeiro was so funny? During a recent stand-up routine, the actor lets actress Janet Hubert (the first Aunt Viv) have it! He calls her a few choice words and questions her sanity.....deets inside.....

During a pretty funny comedy routine, Alfonso Ribeiro reveals that early in his career, he was up for a role on "A Different World" but later chose to shoot "The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" pilot.

The rest, as they say, was history......but he added season one was a mess because of the first Aunt Viv.  Basically he said,

"That b*tch was crazy."

He said that Janet made the set a very hostile environment and would often just "go off" on people.  He also called her "Coo Coo."

But once she was fired......they returned to being one big happy tv family.  Sounds like Will may not be the culprit afterall....

Watch Alfonso talk about Janet at the 2:25 mark:

Where Will Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga Party On New Year's?1676540

From New York to L.A., celebs have plans to ring in 2012 with a bang.
By Jocelyn Vena

New Year's Eve is the last chance you'll have to party in 2011. And as the days to plan out your big night begin to dwindle, MTV News is rounding up some of the biggest parties on the planet. From Los Angeles to New York, there's something for everyone. The Kardashians will be hosting several parties all over Las Vegas. Kim will be at Tao (for a fee of reportedly $600,000), Kourtney, along with the Madden Brothers, will party it up at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris while Rob has it on lock at Tryst.

Other big Sin City parties include Chris Brown's shindig at Pure, Mary J. Blige's bash at RPM Nightclub, Bruno Mars at The Bank and B.o.B at LAX (the club, not the airport). Fergie and will.i.am will both be in Vegas to ring in 2012. The Black Eyed Peas' leading lady will be at 1OAK, while will.i.am be DJing at Surrender. Professional party rockers LMFAO will be shufflin' all night long at Haze Nightclub at Aria. Newly engaged John Legend will perform at the Palms with T-Pain and Paul Oakenfold. As celeb-filled as it may seem, not all the stars will be in Vegas. In Los Angeles, Mario Lopez is hosting a party at Hollywood & Highland that boasts performances by Lupe Fiasco and Cobra Starship. And in Chicago, "American Idol" alum Lee DeWyze will be at the Hard Rock Hotel with DJ Chris Kennedy (Chris Masterson) spinning tunes. Kanye West's plans have yet to be determined, but he recently tweeted he's looking for a place to DJ right into 2012. We're sure someone will find a place for him at their party.

New York is the home of all things New Year's. Lady Gaga has been booked to perform on two NYE specials: the 40th annual "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" and the Japanese program "Kohaku Uta Gassen." For those who want to snuggle up on their couch and avoid all the partying madness, MTV has your back. This year Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole, Jason Derulo and more will be on hand for "NYE in NYC 2012," which will air live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday (December 31) from Times Square, where the famous ball drops on, you guessed it, MTV. What are your New Year's Eve plans? Let us know in the comments!

Best Live MTV Performances Of 20111675822

You — the fans — voted for your favorite performances of the year, from VMA spectacles to Buzzworthy sets.
By MTV News staff

As we continue our weeklong look back on the year in music — MTV kicked things off on Monday with a list of the Best EDM Artists of 2011 — it was hard not to notice that the biggest stars in pop, rock and hip-hop put on some of their most buzzed-about performances — right on our stages. From Adele's spine-tingling ballad at the VMAs to Two Door Cinema Club's rendition of the rollicking "What You Know" at Webster Hall, we culled 16 of the best performances of the last 12 months and you, the fans, voted for your favorites. Here, we present the top 10! 10. Odd Future, "Sandwitches," mtvU Woodie Awards
Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All Loiter Squad, or Odd Future, for short, were one of this year's breakthrough acts. And when they hit the stage for this year's mtvU Woodie Awards, it was clear why. The performance started out tame enough. Tyler, the Creator's "Yonkers" kicked in and a little person impersonating Tyler approached the stage. The calm didn't last long, though, as the real Wolf Haley emerged and confronted the pint-size imposter. From that moment on, the raw, rambunctious, rabid energy that got OF noticed took over as Tyler, Hodgy Beats and the rest of the group launched into an unforgettable performance of "Sandwitches." — Steven Roberts

9. Adele, "Someone Like You," VMAs
Some artists surround themselves with dozens of dancers, seizure-inducing banks of flashing lights and other tricks when they take the stage. But when it comes to Adele's take on the heartbreaking second single from 21 at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, all it took was a grand piano, a single spotlight and some emotive hand gestures. Perfect. — Gil Kaufman 8. Jack's Mannequin, "Release Me," Buzzworthy Live
It doesn't get much more epic than a stripped-down performance right above Times Square. Andrew McMahon of Jack's Mannequin did exactly that with his ode to growing up and settling down, "Release Me," for Buzzworthy's special live series. It's just McMahon, his shades and a piano, and we don't need much else. — Kevin P. Sullivan

7. Chris Brown, "Yeah 3X/ Beautiful People," VMAs
The white suit, the swagger, the strobing VMA stage and some gravity-defying aerial tricks are what defined Breezy's jaw-dropping dance clinic at this year's VMAs. His high-stepping kung fu waltz through Wu-Tang Clan, head-banging ode to Nirvana and mid-air flips again showed that Brown is at his best on an awards-show stage. — G.K. 6. Lil Wayne, "Nightmares of the Bottom," MTV2 "Unplugged"
For his MTV2 "Unplugged" debut in June, Birdman Jr. took the stage wearing a black sweatshirt, black sunglasses and a red fitted baseball cap. Backed by a full band, Wayne launched into his catalog of hits, taking the crowd to musical heights. But one highlight in particular was the MC's premiere of "Nightmares of the Bottom," an instant smash-in-the-making that details Wayne's rise to the top and unwillingness to fail. — Rob Markman 5. Two Door Cinema Club, "What You Know," New York
To say it was a big year for Two Door Cinema Club, the indie-rock group out of Northern Ireland, would be an enormous understatement. The band toured the U.S. for the first time, opening for Tokyo Police Club, and debuted on the American alternative charts with "What You Know." Two Door Cinema played the song at an MTV Hive-hosted performance at the Studio at Webster Hall. The screaming NYC fans seemed to approve. — K.S.

4. Beyoncé, VMAs
At this year's MTV Video Music Awards, Beyoncé hit the stage in a sparkly tux and a glowing smile that never faded as — in typical Sasha Fierce fashion — she worked the crowd. From the effervescent single "Love on Top" (from her critically acclaimed 4) to her nod to the Motown era, the performance was ebullient. But it was the very last moment in her set that ensured it would go down in the VMA annals. Mrs. Carter, with a little hip-hop swagger, dropped the mic, opened her jacket and revealed an adorable baby bump. Leave it to the Queen B to rock the house, make headlines and set Twitter records all at once. — Andrea Duncan-Mao

3. Mac Miller, "Knock Knock," Chicago
Mac Miller's live performance of "Knock Knock" in Chicago is a pretty good peek at what you're in for at one of his concerts: very little gravity, a lot of movement and fans who could easily understudy for the rapper because they know every word to every track. And it's the Pittsburgh 19-year-old's pumped-up, feel-good presence that helped him land on another coveted list this year: MTV News' Hottest Breakthrough MC contest. — Rya Backer 2. Paramore, "Brick by Boring Brick," "Fueled by Ramen 15"
Paramore are living proof that you can go home again and, in the process, rock so hard that fans will vote you to the #2 position on MTV's list. Clearly psyched to be rocking the stage as headliners for FBR's anniversary event in September, the band's take on "Brick by Boring Brick" was typical high-energy Paramore goodness. Bassist Jeremy Davis and guitarist Taylor York spun and lunged around the stage as singer Hayley Williams looked shot out of a canon, bouncing and pumping her fists as she let the audience handle the first verse of the tune. Williams took over the vocals soon enough in her breathless best, leaving enough space for the sweaty, ardent fans to chime in at strategic points. — Gil Kaufman 1. 30Seconds to Mars, "Hurricane," "Unplugged"
30 Seconds to Mars' award for the Best Live MTV Performance of 2011 comes on the heels of a globe-spanning, record-setting tour. And Just as they did at the group's closing show in New York, the Echelon demonstrated their devotion to the band ... by voting in force. 30STM's poll-winning "Unlugged" performance of "Hurricane" features acoustic guitars and Jared Leto's sparse vocals, but it also comes backed by a stirring string ensemble. The mood inside the studio is undeniably somber but, like pretty much everything 30STM do, there's a raging, revelatory undercurrent too. Their performance is very much a communal thing, one where a celebration never seems all that far off. — James Montgomery All this week, watch "AMTV" on MTV every day at 8 a.m. ET for our Best of 2011 lists. Then, come to MTVNews.com at 5 p.m. as we reveal our top picks of the year!

Justin Bieber Should 'Stay Strong,' Usher Says1674705

'All of this comes with the territory,' Ush tells MTV News of paternity-suit drama.
By Jocelyn Vena

Usher might not have known how big Justin Bieber would become when he discovered him a few years back, but he was pretty sure he had found something special.

Since Bieber burst on the scene with his My World EP back in 2009, the 17-year-old has grown up with the world watching. He's gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years. Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped. Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: "Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory." Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber's charitable side. His mentor said he "absolutely" knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start. "To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future," Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it. Usher — who appears on Bieber's new Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe — gives credit to the folks surrounding the teen superstar, including manager Scooter Braun. "Just judging from the determination and the will power of the entire team around Justin, I see a very, very promising [future] for him as a philanthropist," Usher said.

Even a dozen years removed from the White House, former president Bill Clinton still has that same superstar-attracting aura. That might explain why such bright lights as Lady Gaga, Bono and The Edge of U2, and Usher have signed on to perform at an October 15 party for Clinton at the Hollywood Bowl. According to The Hollywood Reporter, details on the final list of performers and presenters are still being worked on, but an impressive list of movie and TV personalities are expected to sign on for the event, which is being billed as a celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Clinton's nonprofit William J. Clinton Foundation. To date, the foundation has raised more than $10 billion for some of the ex-president's most cherished causes, including HIV/AIDS treatment, economic empowerment, food aid and global health initiatives. The show, which will also serve as a birthday party celebration for the former Democratic leader (who turned 65 on August 19), will be broadcast exclusively by Yahoo, which will stream "A Decade of Difference: A Concert Celebrating 10 Years of the William J. Clinton Foundation" worldwide to a potential audience of millions. Clinton continues to travel the world doing good works, though he turned his attention homeward over the weekend when he participated in the 10th anniversary ceremonies of the September 11 terror attacks. He announced on Sunday that he will team with Republican House Speaker John Boehner in a bipartisan effort to raise the final $10 million needed to complete the Fight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Best Movie Scenes Of 2011

MTV News counts down the most gripping, action-packed moments from 'Harry Potter,' 'Breaking Dawn,' 'Dragon Tattoo' and more.

Rare is the moviegoing experience after which you leave the theater having loved each and every frame that flashed onscreen. Even when talking about our 10 favorite films of the year, we didn't love everything about them, just most everything. More often than not, however, a film's success and sustainability can be attributed to a few brilliantly crafted key scenes or sequences. They are the moments that make us ooh and aah, laugh out loud, cringe or cover our eyes.

In the spirit of the movie moments that have stuck with us and will continue to do so, here's our list of the 10 best scenes from 2011's new releases. SPOILERS ahead.

10. Ryan Gosling's Airbrushed Abs Reveal, "Crazy, Stupid, Love"
Let's face it, ladies have been mooning away over Ryan Gosling since his star-making turn in "The Notebook." And although the Hollywood heartthrob always looks good onscreen, we hadn't seen him cash in on the whole dreamboat card until this year's hit romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love." When he removes his fancy dress shirt to reveal a ridiculously chiseled and tanned torso, he really does look Photoshopped, in the best way possible. — Kara Warner

9. The Hour-Long Fight, "13 Assassins"
Takashi Miike's play-out in two parts: one hour of build-up and one hour of bloody chaos. In an attempt to kill a corrupt ruler in feudal Japan, 13 samurai set the most violent version of a "Home Alone" house to trap the target and his entourage of 200 bodyguards. The result lasts an hour and engages you the entire time. — Kevin Sullivan

8. Bridge Fight in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"
The latest, possibly greatest "Apes" movie was already one of the excellent surprises of the 2011 movie season even before the film reached its climax high atop the Golden Gate Bridge. The brillz apes take on the feckless cops in a fight scene that's tense, cinematically creative and just beautiful to behold. Even more impressive than the throw-down itself is that director Rupert Wyatt manages to slip some genuine character drama into the mix without slowing down the action: Caesar, the ringleader of the simian uprising, goes from reluctant warrior to cold-blooded revolutionary when he finally realizes humans don't give a hoot about his damn dirty kind. — Eric Ditzian

7. The Final Tap-Out, "Warrior"
Sure, there are a few clichés in the MMA-heavy familial drama "Warrior," but all the great sports-centric movies have them: an abusive/alcoholic parent, the underdog fighting/playing against all odds, the competitor with nothing to lose, etc. The difference is, of course, whether they work or not. "Warrior" works. We love a story that moves us to applause or tears, and the cool, calculated intensity that builds up to the film's emotionally electric climactic fight between two very damaged brothers does just that. That final moment where one brother finally lets go of all that anger and ever so gently taps his sibling is as brutal as it is poetic. — K.W.

6. Birth Scene in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1"
The penultimate "Twilight" flick may not have made our list of the best movies of 2011, but it's hard to argue there was a more memorable scene — by which we mean totally goddamn bonkers — than the sequence when pregnant Bella Swan goes into labor and Edward Cullen, after realizing that a mere scalpel can't free their vampire/human spawn, goes to work on his wife's womb with his fangs. Blood is spilled, gasps and/or guffaws are unleashed by moviegoers (depending on each one's relative level of Twi-hardness), and cinematic history is made." — E.D.

5. Sebastian Shaw's Death-by-Coin, "X-Men: First Class"
It took Erik Lensherr a long, long time to return the coin "gifted" to him by Sebastian Shaw all those years ago, but when he finally got to his moment of vengeance, the wait was well worth it. Shaw's death-by-coin remains one of the coolest scenes of the year, and ranks as one of the most memorable comic book movie deaths of all time. — Josh Wigler

4. The Elevator Scene, "Drive"
It wasn't necessarily the most graphic scene in the surprisingly violent indie hit, but the elevator scene is the one that will stay with us the longest. Not only because it featured the best head bashing since "Inglourious Basterds," but because of the look on Ryan Gosling's face when he turns to see Carey Mulligan watching. — K.S.

3. Lisbeth's Revenge, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"
Lisbeth's life is riddled with misfortune and loneliness, only furthered when she is anally raped by a "social servant." Very few women have the courage to come forth after such a gruesome invasion of space, let alone confront their molester. So, the fact that Lisbeth had the courage to do what we all wished would naturally have come to such an evil man makes this graphic scene gut-wrenching yet empowering. — Natasha Chandel

2. Bridal-Store Bathroom Blowout, "Bridesmaids"
Disparaging sounds of indigestion are usually correlated with the uncouth ways of boys; everything from farts to exploding diarrhea. Which is why witnessing decently classy young women let 'er rip, of no choice of their own, in the most unsanitary of ways, made this scene an instant comedy classic for this year ... and all time! — N.C.

1. Harry's Long Walk, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
Eight films and over a decade later, it all came down to this: Harry taking that long walk of no-shame towards Voldemort, fully accepting his impending demise as a necessary means to ending his nemesis' reign of terror once and for all. Of course, it didn't shake out quite that simply, but Harry's willingness to die for the greater good was proof positive of how much the "Potter" films grew and matured since "The Sorcerer's Stone." — J.W.

Our Favorite Celebrity Couples Of 20111676487

From Britney and Jason to K-Stew and R-Pattz, we look back at the best high-profile pair-ups of the year.

'Hunger Games' Suspense Kicked Into High Gear In 2011

The film might not hit theaters until next year, but casting announcements and exclusive interviews got fans worked up for March release.

For the millions of fans who have been eagerly awaiting a film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-seller "The Hunger Games," 2011 gave them even more to be eager about as details trickled out about the movie, which is due in March.

We at MTV News have been as caught up in the frenzy as everyone else. And along the way, we've been able to speak with the major players involved in the "Games," gleaning the juiciest details from the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.

Back in January, before casting was solidified, Hemsworth told MTV News he'd read the script and that he could actually see himself in the role of Peeta. After Hemsworth won the role of Gale instead, we chatted up his older brother and fellow actor Chris Hemsworth, who revealed that he helped Liam prep for his big audition by reading the role of Katniss. "I did. Swear to God," he said. "I read that. Put my girly American accent on."

In May, we had our first "Hunger Games"-centricchat with Jennifer Lawrence. She discussed fans' initial protests over her blond hair, which quieted after she dyed it, along with the intense hours of archery training she went through to become as convincingly handy with a bow and arrow as Katniss is.

"It's lots of training, but the training is actually really fun," she said. "I've done archery for about six weeks, rock climbing, tree climbing and combat and running and vaulting," she said. "Also yoga and things like that to stay cat-like."

We also caught up with some of the film's supporting actors. Lenny Kravitz, who is ready to further prove his acting chops in the role of sympathetic District 12 stylist Cinna, said he's doing his homework by immersing himself in all Collins' books. Elizabeth Banks was a bit more cagey in revealing any details about her transformation into pink-haired, type-A Effie Trinket, but she did admit that she and co-star Woody Harrelson have chemistry.

Harrelson, who plays alcoholic Hunger Games survivor Haymitch Abernathy, praised Lawrence's portrayal of Katniss and revealed that his character's hairstyle was inspired by his own brother. "I was like, 'OK, let's get a wig. Let's do the Brett Harrelson hair,' " he said of the long and slightly shaggy style. "It's kind of cool. I really liked the look. It's a fun character, and I think it's going to be a good movie."

Fellow supporting player Stanley Tucci, a.k.a. the blue-haired Caesar Flickerman, echoed Harrelson's sentiments about Lawrence's performance. "She was amazing," he said. "They were all amazing. She's just so good and so mature at such a young age. It was really fun. Really fun. And [director] Gary Ross, he's great."

We didn't have to take Tucci's word for it, as we also sat down with Ross for an exclusive interview surrounding our debut of the "Games" teaser trailer back in August. The "Seabiscuit" and "Pleasantville" helmer took us through his detailed plans for the film and the challenges of filming.

And we finally stole a few moments with Peeta Mellark himself, Josh Hutcherson, who took us through his grueling audition process and the anxious wait for the news of his casting, why he was "so right" for Peeta and his excitement for the fans to see the finished product.

"It's exciting to hear people are that interested in something you're doing, so it's a little nerve-racking, but I'm onboard," he said. "The fans for 'The Hunger Games,' they're die-hard. They're the best fans in the world, so I'm really excited for them to see the movie."

Check out everything we've got on "The Hunger Games."

Rihanna Goes It Alone In 'You Da One' Video

Singer mugs for camera in a variety of glamorous looks in Melina Matsoukas-directed clip.
By Jocelyn Vena

Rihanna might be singing about someone special on "You Da One," but the video is all about the singer. For the second clip off her Talk That Talk album, the singer once again worked with Melina Matsoukas, who also directed her provocative, swirling "We Found Love" video.

Unlike her "We Found Love" video, the "You Da One" clip has no real story. Instead, it is a series of glamour shots and artsy finishes, ranging from the lyrics of the song floating across the screen in a variety of fonts to Ri's mouth (including her previously teased grill) flashing across the screen. The pop star mugs it up for the camera, allowing the track to shine.

The singer channels everyone from 1960s fashion icon and Andy Warhol muse Twiggy to "A Clockwork Orange" leading man Alex DeLarge for the many looks of the video, which include platinum cropped wigs, suspenders, bowler hats and body-hugging catsuits. Dancing and slinking around the giant warehouse setting, Rihanna doesn't seem to be performing for anyone but the camera.

The video's auteur, Matsoukas, had glowing words for the video on Twitter. "This sh-- is pretty punk and irreverent," she wrote. "This bitch @rihanna can pull off anything ... Even on negative sleep ..." Ri's response? Simply an "XOXO."

In the lead-up to the holiday release, Rihanna teased fans about the video in a series of behind-the-scenes videos and stills. "We're in London town!" the chart-topper tells the cameraman in a behind-the-scenes video released last week, while the Dr. Luke-produced track plays in the background.

"We tried to shoot our first setup outside, but it started to rain really, really hard. Then it stopped after we had to switch setups. ...I'm running on one hour of sleep. I'm not even going to remember this tomorrow. My eyes are burning a little bit."
