As Kate Gosselin told Matt Lauer Monday morning on the Today show, the cancellation of her TLC reality series Kate Plus 8 is the "end of an era." But although was the 36-year-old reality star admitted she was "freaking out" about the show ending (the last episode airs Monday night), crushed fans need not worry: Gosselin insists that you'll see her (and her kids) back on television again soon. Watch Gosselin's Today interview below!
According to Gosselin, she saw the show's cancellation coming -- "It was not a surprise, so I braced myself, and here we are," she told Lauer -- but that doesn't mean she's ready to give up the spotlight just yet. Not-so-subtly getting a dig in at ex-husband Jon Gosselin, who recently expressed the views that "reality TV is not a career" and that Kate should go back to a "normal life," Kate boldly stated her intention to return to TV (along with her eight kids) if the opportunity arises.
"Jon may be accepting of mediocre for his kids and working a regular job, but I want the best for my kids and the best opportunities, not unlike every parent," she said. "To be a good parent is to work as hard as you can and to give them the best opportunities in life and (Kate Plus 8) has provided them that."
So does Kate feel any relief at getting back to a "normal life" with her kids -- 10-year-old twins Cara and Mady, and 7-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel -- who have been in the public eye since Jon & Kate Plus 8 debuted in 2005?
"There is some relief but there is sadness because it's the end of an era," Gosselin said. "I feel sad for my kids because of all of the opportunities that they're now questioning what's going to happen. I feel sad for fans. They're devastated. They're saying, 'You're the neighbor moving far away and we won't see you again.'"
But Kate thinks that fans will see her and her brood on the small screen again. "It would have to be the right one," she said when asked if another reality show with her kids might be in the in the cards. "I'm sure you will see my kids again at some point."
In the meantime, Gosselin has launched a website, Kate Plus My 8 (it went live today), where fans of the show can continue to get their Gosselin fix.
