Kim Kardashian is having an eventful summer: planning for her upcoming wedding to Kris Humphries, X-raying her butt... and, now, suing Old Navy (and its parent company, the Gap Inc.) for using a Kim K. lookalike in one of its popular ads.
The "Super C-U-T-E" ad began airing in February and features 29-year-old singer-model Melissa Molinaro -- who bears an uncanny resemblance to 30-year-old Kim -- singing, dancing and getting mani-pedis, all while wearing Old Navy clothing. The ad quickly became a Youtube sensation, no doubt partly because of Molinaro's likeness to Kim. Watch the video below!
According to Us Weekly, Kardashian's lawsuit claims that the ad violates her publicity rights because viewers will mistakenly think that the reality star herself is endorsing Old Navy's clothes. (That claim might not be so far-fetched: Reggie Bush, who used to date Kim, is currently seeing Molinaro -- maybe he can't tell the difference?) Kardashian wants to stop the ads from playing and also block Old Navy from using such a specific doppelganger in future ads.
Extra is reporting that Kardashian is seeking a whopping $20 million in damages because she "has invested substantial time, energy, finances and entrepreneurial effort in developing her considerable professional and commercial achievements and success, as well as in developing her popularity, fame, and prominence in the public eye."
An insider tells Us Weekly, "She's a businesswoman who has to protect her brand. Bottom line." We assume that that would be an X-rayed bottom line?
